What this kata contains
OverviewThis page does not carry a sourced, movement-by-movement score for this kata. The points below describe what it contains and emphasises — not a numbered sequence to follow move by move.
- Follows Gekisai Dai's shape but with open-hand technique throughout: the same turning Jodan Mawashi Uke in Sanchin Dachi, answered here by Nukite (spear-hand) strikes to the solar plexus
- A short advance in Sanchin Dachi carries alternating Nukite strikes through to a strong Kiai
- Turns out into Zenkutsu Dachi for a Gedan Barai paired with Mae Geri and an open-hand strike, mirrored on both sides
- Closes with a run of rising open-hand blocks advancing in Sanchin Dachi, then a turn into descending open-hand strikes
Key Points
The points most worth checking your own performance against.
- Nukite strikes penetrate rather than impact
- Open-hand circular blocks deflect with precision
- Maintain same power as closed-fist techniques
- Finger conditioning is important for this kata
Purpose
To develop softer, more circular techniques while maintaining power and effectiveness.
